Be it the ambassador of Germany or some other country, no matter who comes, if relations are not normalized and Georgia does not fulfill the obligations that a candidate country and later a member of the European Union requires, nothing will change for the better, Gigi Tsereteli, the chairman of European Georgia, stated on Palitranews, thereby responding to the criticism of the German ambassador by the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament and Shalva Papuashvili’s expectation that “Peter Fischer will leave Georgia in a few weeks and retire.”
According to him, Europe Day once again showed everyone the harsh reality that exists in our country.
“These are absolutely opposite actions from what 80% of the Georgian population needs and wants, and what is humanly and civically correct, rather than the status quo that exists today. Moving away from the West, isolation from Europe, conflict with Europe, even verbal, ideological, means rapprochement with Russia. The Russian perspective is the worst thing that can be wished for Georgia.
[As for the fact that the new German ambassador after Peter Fischer’s departure will have a different rhetoric], to put it mildly, this is a mimetic approach, and to put it more bluntly, it is nonsense. Because ambassadors may be subjective at a certain moment, but they are professional ambassadors, and Germany is not a country that sends inexperienced or unprofessional diplomatic personnel to countries. After all, there are places for ambassadors where they can relax and there is no great political burden. Georgia is one of the hot political spots on the map of Europe today. We see that the chairman of the parliament, practically, has become the main character in the verbal battle with Europe. It is understandable, the roles are distributed. It curses every day, this is incomprehensible harm. They need this for a certain audience. This is also the Russian model. It also fights NATO, Europe and the West in this way, it has created the image of an enemy in order to further strengthen its support. All this that is happening is for the most difficult future perspective. How can you brazenly declare that you want the European Union, relations with Europe, restoration of relations, and at the same time curse it.
Be it the ambassador of Germany or some other country, no matter who comes, if relations are not normalized and Georgia does not fulfill the obligations that a candidate country and later a member of the European Union requires, nothing will change for the better," said Gigi Tsereteli.
In addition, Gigi Tsereteli assessed the decisions made by the European Parliament regarding the TV company "Imedi" and Moldova regarding "Imedi", "Rustavi 2" and "Postv" and noted that no representative of the Georgian Dream government can serve as a defender of free speech."
"If we talk in general, perhaps freedom, freedom of the media, freedom of speech should not have prohibitive mechanisms. Whether you like it or not, this is democracy. The media should function. However, there are some specific issues, perhaps in relation to propaganda television stations and media outlets. This is not the first case. Britain has also taken a concrete step and the critical part sees all this, what is constantly being propagated, in what form and how. Such propaganda is unacceptable for the West and our partners. As for the Moldovan decision, it is even more painful, in my opinion. Because in this case, this is also a clear expression of the severity, the unacceptability and the policy that exists, both in the Georgian Dream government, as well as in terms of the channels and media outlets that support them”, he said.
He also spoke about the meeting between the Ukrainian side and Georgia, which is scheduled to take place in parallel with the planned session in Moldova, and, as he noted, he does not rule out that the parties will raise the issue of the release of the third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, in this format.
Another issue that the chairman of European Georgia discussed is the approval of the law on deepening allied cooperation with Tskhinvali by the Russian Duma. According to him, “Russia is leading the process and has always led it to the point of threatening the sovereignty and independence of Georgia and bringing it into its sphere of influence.”
“The silence of the Georgian Dream on Russia's steps tells us that Georgia is practically in a capitulating position”, he said.
