“Spitting” — this is my response to ‘Georgian Dream’s’ disgraceful talk about “repentance,” said Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the “Droa” party, in reaction to statements by Georgian Dream leaders regarding the possible pardon of prisoners.

Khoshtaria’s statement was published on social media by the “Droa” party.

“Once, a tyrant captured a free, innocent person and thought: I will torture him and make him say something. The free, innocent person fell silent and spat in his face.

For context, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated today that remorse and repentance for committed crimes would be the key factor in changing their approach, while also noting that pardoning prisoners is the prerogative of the President, Mikheil Kavelashvili, who may consider various factors when making such decisions.

“The court acts under strict legal standards. A pardon is a political decision, and the President may take various factors into account. The court cannot act on political expediency. Repentance and acknowledgment of wrongdoing are key. Until we see acknowledgment, remorse, and repentance, our approach will not change,” Kobakhidze said.
