“Mr. Fischer is clearly confused. It is regrettable, it is unfortunate, especially when he speaks about our friendly countries and peoples, and ultimately ends up referring to them in a negative context,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said, responding to statements made by Germany’s Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, in an interview with Radio Free Europe.
According to him, Fischer’s statements are consistently unserious.
“He is clearly confused, Mr. Fischer. There is no other way to put it, because his every new statement is completely unserious. It is wrong to take this seriously. It is regrettable and unfortunate, especially when he speaks about our friendly countries and peoples, and ultimately refers to them in a negative context. Such remarks do not deserve any serious assessment,” the Prime Minister said.
In addition, he responded to a question about the fact that on the website of Germany’s Foreign Ministry, Salome Zurabishvili is still listed as the President of Georgia, while Ilia Darchiashvili is listed as the Foreign Minister.
“These steps by the German authorities are unserious, just as unserious as the German ambassador in Georgia and his actions. We are talking about Germany, a country that has historically been distinguished as a principle-based state. These principles have somehow disappeared, which is regrettable and unfortunate. Even their website information is not updated. This is unserious, and I am not even mentioning many other actions.
Even the failure to schedule meetings for the ambassador is another manifestation of this,” the Prime Minister said.
For context, Germany’s Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, said in an interview with Radio Free Europe: “Some Georgians know what it means to join the European Union, others say they have no better alternative, they do not want to be Russian, Turkish, Iranian or Azerbaijani, and only being together with Armenia may not be sufficient.”
