Levan Tsutskiridze: What kind of grandmaster is Ivanishvili?

The leader of the “Freedom Square” movement, Levan Tsutskiridze, responded to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s briefing and questioned the narrative surrounding Bidzina Ivanishvili’s political “grandmaster” image.

He said it is unclear how Ivanishvili can be described as a “grandmaster” if, according to official statements from the ruling party, key political decisions regarding different leaders were repeatedly wrong.

“What kind of grandmaster is he if everyone is lying? He chose Margvelashvili and later said, ‘I was mistaken, I was misled, he was not good.’ He also said the same about Zurabishvili. Irakli Gharibashvili was presented as a savior of the nation, and now he is in prison over allegations of embezzling millions. And now we are told Kobakhidze is also misleading him. What kind of grandmaster is that? Is this incompetence?” Tsutskiridze said in an interview with “PalitraNews” program Day Newsroom, responding to Kobakhidze’s briefing about Ivanishvili.

Commenting on the phrase that Kobakhidze has “fallen under pressure,” Tsutskiridze said this changes nothing.

“‘Kobakhidze is under pressure’ - so what? That changes nothing,” he said.

He argued that the ruling party’s narrative reflects inconsistency and poor political judgment rather than strategic leadership.

Tsutskiridze also criticized the idea that all major decisions were guided by Ivanishvili, saying this contradicts the image of effective political control being promoted.

He added that a significant portion of the government has been sanctioned or faces serious allegations, questioning whether this can be considered successful governance.

According to him, living conditions have worsened for most citizens, while only those close to the ruling elite benefit from the system.

Tsutskiridze also called for politicians to engage more directly with ordinary citizens, rather than political media debates.

“I invite Kobakhidze to leave the studios and talk to people in villages, look children in the eyes, and speak with elderly citizens about real life,” he said.

He further stated that internal disagreements within the opposition are distracting from the main goal of addressing public problems and holding the government accountable.

Tsutskiridze emphasized that his movement prioritizes direct communication with citizens across the country and is preparing for upcoming political activity, including future electoral scenarios.
