Nino Lomjaria: I have filed a lawsuit in court against the TV company "Imedi"; the case concerns a defamatory campaign against me, alleging that I demand the punishment of the Georgian people and the cancellation of visa-free travel with the European Union

The Executive Director of “Georgian European Orbit,” Nino Lomjaria, is suing TV company Imedi TV in court.

As she stated at today’s briefing, the case concerns information spread by the TV company and representatives of “Georgian Dream,” claiming that she demands punishment of the Georgian people and the cancellation of visa-free travel with the EU.

“I want to inform you that I have filed a lawsuit in court against Imedi TV. The case concerns a large-scale defamatory campaign launched by the TV company and representatives of ‘Georgian Dream’ against me, alleging that I demand the punishment of the Georgian people and the cancellation of visa-free travel with the European Union. The lawsuit against Imedi is not only about the lies spread about me. This case is also about how responsibility for the consequences of one’s own policies is being shifted onto others. I filed this lawsuit not only as a target of disinformation, but also as a mother of two and a citizen of this country,” Lomjaria said.

She added that there is no evidence, witness, or illegally obtained recording suggesting she has ever spoken or thought anything against Georgia’s European future, candidate status, or visa-free regime.

“At the same time, I want to state that there is no witness, no fact, not even an illegally obtained secret recording, where I have ever said or thought anything against Georgia’s European future, candidate status, or visa-free travel. On the contrary, many facts confirm the opposite.

The campaign against me shows that the government is already preparing the ground for possible consequences of its own anti-European policies. In reality, those in power are no longer thinking about how to preserve visa-free travel. They are thinking about whom to blame if it is lost. This is a campaign to save themselves, not to protect Georgian citizens’ free movement with Europe,” she said.

She also expressed solidarity with imprisoned opposition politician Elene Khoshtaria, calling for her release and proper medical care.

“I want to address the unjust and politically motivated imprisonment of Elene Khoshtaria and the deterioration of her health in detention. I express my support and solidarity with Elene and all strong women targeted by the regime. I join the public demand for their release from unlawful detention. It is necessary that Elene immediately receive full and quality medical care. It was especially immoral to cover her condition through propaganda. Propaganda did not refrain from dirty methods against a sick woman prisoner,” Lomjaria said.
