The United Kingdom has sanctioned two major pro-government broadcasters — “it is a shame that today, while we are sitting here, they are in the corridor,” said Sam Rushworth during his speech in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe debate on Georgia.
“I think one of the key paragraphs of this resolution is that ‘there are currently no conditions for holding genuinely democratic elections in Georgia.’ This describes the severity of the situation faced by opposition politicians. We must strongly condemn politically motivated and disproportionate punishments against representatives of the opposition, including Elene Khoshtaria — a year and a half for writing ‘Russian Dream’ on an election poster. Regardless of differing political views, it is clear that this punishment is disproportionate. This report is strong, but I believe it is incomplete without names such as Mikheil Saakashvili, Levan Khabeishvili, and Paata Manjgaladze,” Sam Rushworth said.
According to him, there is deep concern regarding state media.
“The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on two major pro-government broadcasters for spreading false narratives related to Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine. I think it is a shame that today, while we are sitting here, they are in the corridor,” Rushworth noted.
