“It is very unfortunate what happened. We apologize to the public. However, there are red lines beyond which a Georgian man cannot remain patient. There were serious insults,” said Levan Machavariani, First Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction of Georgian Dream, speaking to the media.
According to him, representatives of Gakharia for Georgia were instructed to insult members of the ruling party.
Machavariani said that during the physical confrontation, the majority of Georgian Dream members were trying to de-escalate the situation.
“It was instructed by Giorgi Gakharia what his subordinates should say to our team. There were very severe personal insults. Ultimately, everything escalated into what it escalated into. Unfortunately, that plan of Giorgi Gakharia was carried out, because from the beginning there were such insults.
The insults were not one-time; we endured them as much as we could.
Let the MPs of Gakharia’s party comment on this. The footage clearly shows who started the incident, so it is easy to draw conclusions.
As for ‘one person against the whole Georgian Dream’ - most of the Georgian Dream team was trying to separate the sides, which is why those people were able to leave the hall. It was Giorgi Sharashidze who was distinguished by insults today. He left the hall without being physically hit. The parliamentary Marshal’s service was involved. Most of Georgian Dream was trying to de-escalate,” said Machavariani.
