We demand that the Georgian Government raise the issue of the ongoing annexation of the occupied Tskhinvali region during the planned meeting within the framework of the Geneva International Discussions. We call on the co-chairs of the Geneva Discussions to condemn the violations of international law by the Russian Federation, - writes Giorgi Gakharia, chairman of the party “Gakharia For Georgia,” on social media.

“Today the 67th round of the Geneva International Discussions begins. After the previous round, Moscow significantly accelerated the annexation of Georgia’s occupied Tskhinvali region, the goal of which is its integration into the Russian Federation. This new phase of annexation began with the signing of the so-called ‘Agreement on Deepening Allied Relations’ on May 9, followed by the appointment of a Russian official as head of the occupation administration in Tskhinvali,” Gakharia writes.

According to him, the Georgian Government is remaining silent on this issue.

“The ‘Georgian Dream’ government maintains silence in the face of this blatant violation of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and even refuses to support a resolution condemning the annexation. By choosing to do absolutely nothing to counter the annexation, ‘Georgian Dream’ openly demonstrates cooperation with the occupying power,” Gakharia writes.

He notes that the Geneva Discussions represent the only format in which Georgia discusses the conflict with Russia and the situation in the occupied territories.

“We demand from the Georgian Government that it raise the issue of the ongoing annexation of the occupied Tskhinvali region during the meeting. We call on the co-chairs of the Geneva Discussions to condemn these violations of international law by the Russian Federation, including the violation of its own obligations under the 2008 Ceasefire Agreement,” Giorgi Gakharia writes.
