In fact, Vladimer Chachibaia said that in the “criminal process,” which is now being attributed to Giorgi Gakharia, the Defense Forces also participated in the process of erecting the outpost, – this was stated by the Executive Secretary of “Gakharia for Georgia,” Berdia Sichinava.

According to Sichinava, if the prosecution considers the construction of the outpost an illegal act, then the Defense Forces also participated within the framework of the said process.

In Sichinava’s assessment, the witness’s information regarding the processes taking place before the construction of the outpost is unreliable, because, according to his statement, Chachibaia himself noted that he only learned by chance about the events taking place in Chorchana and the construction of the police outpost.

In Berdia Sichinava’s opinion, there is political justice against Giorgi Gakharia, where the former commander of the Defense Forces is made to say that he had no information, not even that provided by military intelligence, about what processes were taking place in Chorchana, and that he found out by chance on the day the outpost was erected.

“Today the prosecution presented as a witness the former commander of the Defense Forces, Vladimer Chachibaia, who was questioned. The information given by the witness to the court can be divided into two parts: what was happening before the construction of the outpost and after the construction of the outpost.

It can be said that the information provided by Chachibaia regarding what was happening before the construction of the outpost is unreliable – the commander of the Defense Forces, who did not know what processes were developing near the Tskhinvali occupation line, found out by chance about the construction of the police outpost.

An important circumstance that Mr. Chachibaia confirmed and for which he had to face the truth is that public security and the order of management near the occupation line is the mandate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs; accordingly, when the Ministry of Internal Affairs makes decisions of this type, it is guided by the information it has received, and the deployment of the Defense Forces is, of course, prohibited by the 6-point ceasefire agreement of 2008.

The second important issue that he said is that he in fact participated in the process of laying the road for the police outpost after the outpost was erected, for logistical support. In fact, he said that in the ‘criminal process,’ as they call it, which is now being attributed to Giorgi Gakharia – the process of erecting the outpost – the Defense Forces also participated, which was laying a military road for logistical purposes.

An important circumstance here is one: today in the country we have political justice, where the commander of the Defense Forces is made to say that he had no information, not even that provided by military intelligence, about what processes were taking place in Chorchana. In fact, he found out by chance on the day the outpost was erected. What is important is that Chachibaia confirmed the creeping occupation, borderization, which is continuously ongoing,” – Sichinava stated.

In his assessment, the case against Giorgi Gakharia is politically motivated and based on a “fabricated accusation,” and the participants in the process will be ashamed, because the so-called Chorchana case will be the “greatest shame” in the history of the country.

“Giorgi Gakharia is being tried on a fabricated accusation. Exactly with the narrative and on the basis of the evidence that the representatives of the Tskhinvali occupation regime have against Giorgi Gakharia. This case will be the greatest shame in the history of this country. Every person who participated in this process will be ashamed for taking part in it,” – Sichinava stated.
