Giorgi Chanturia: We are watching the operation to remove Mamuka Mdinaradze; as for the creation of the “scrolling-screening agency” and then the “beating-and-thrashing agency,” the goal is to suppress dissenting opinion

Mdinaradze had an enviable tan on his face, but even through the tan it was clearly visible what condition they are in, - this is what Giorgi Chanturia, a member of the political council of “Gakharia for Georgia,” said on PalitraNews’ program “Day’s Newsroom,” where he responded to the announced personnel and structural changes in the government.

As Giorgi Chanturia noted, “over the past months we have been watching the operation to remove Mamuka Mdinaradze.”

“Promoting Mamuka Mdinaradze turned out to be much easier for ‘Georgian Dream’ than getting rid of him. For the past months we have been watching the operation to remove Mamuka Mdinaradze. The more painless the removal of people is, the more painless it will be for the party as well. The fact is that Ivanishvili no longer has any plans for Mdinaradze and does not see a role for him, but removing him with one stroke of the hand would also have been wrong. ‘Georgian Dream’ is trying to remove people as painlessly as possible, especially when it comes to Mamuka Mdinaradze. The fact is that Mdinaradze jumped higher than he should have. Today, for Ivanishvili, a threat is anyone he cannot trust 100%. The fact is that this person redistributed members of his security detail across the power structures. It is ridiculous: Kobakhidze created this person in a few months - first made him a general, gave him a mandate at the State Security Service, and now we are watching the demotion of this person by the hand of Irakli Kobakhidze. This is happening against Kobakhidze’s will, but by Kobakhidze’s hand.

Mdinaradze had an enviable tan on his face, but even through the tan it was clearly visible what condition these people are in. Is anyone asking about Okhanashvili at all? As long as Ivanishvili is the sole informal ruler, power is only in his hands. If Kobakhidze or Mdinaradze had illusions that they have influence over the internal context, those influences and illusions were destroyed by [Bidzina Ivanishvili] with one wave of the hand. Yesterday a campaign started as if Mamuka Mdinaradze is a ‘jigari’ (cool/tough) person. What campaign will help?! If Mamuka Mdinaradze looks into his heart, he understands best of all that this person has been thrown onto the political scrap heap, that he is not needed by Ivanishvili and ‘Georgian Dream.’ When in 3 months the party does something like this to you, let it be an example for some people. It is regrettable that Okhanashvili and Gharibashvili did not turn out to be sufficient examples,” Giorgi Chanturia noted.

According to him, two years ago everyone knew that Irakli Kobakhidze could not be the prime minister whom ‘Georgian Dream’ and Ivanishvili would rely on.

Irakli Kobakhidze is not a positive figure even within the party itself, and everyone knows this. Kobakhidze is a person who can carry out any dirty assignment. The fact is that Irakli Kobakhidze is a person who signs everything. Leaving everything else aside, he tore down Article 78 of the Constitution of this country and stopped European integration,” Giorgi Chanturia stated.

At the same time, he also responded to the fact that Tinatin Rukhadze left the position of Minister of Culture.

“Whether Ms. Rukhadze would be Minister of Culture or not - what does it matter. I would even allow somewhere that Mdinaradze would be appointed Minister of Culture. The reshuffling of ministers has so little significance, it is so faceless,” Giorgi Chanturia stated.

In addition to the above topics, he also assessed the fact that a new movement was founded by MMA fighter Giorgi Kartvelishvili, whose goal, according to the organizers, is “the protection of Georgian values, principles, and traditions.”

According to him, this country has experienced so many things that even if it were not MMA but a group of samurai, they are mistaken if they think they will scare people with this.

“Kobakhidze and Mdinaradze created the scrolling-screening agency with their own hands, and three days ago they also created the beating-and-thrashing agency - as for the MMA group. The fact is that the goal of these people is to suppress and intimidate dissenting opinion in the country. If we look at the reactions, a person came out yesterday and said ‘protect me, my family and I have become victims of bullying.’ It is ridiculous… ‘Georgian Dream’ threw these people to society to be ridiculed. This country has experienced so many things that even if it were not MMA but a group of samurai, if anyone thinks they will scare people with this, I don’t know. Even in such conditions, yes, ‘Georgian Dream’ has complete sole power, they need an invented bandit group in order to manage processes in the country. They themselves admit: we are a powerless government, because it is unimaginable to have the State Security Service, the Prosecutor’s Office, the court, the parliament, and still need an MMA bandit group to manage processes in the country. That is why people ridiculed them when they saw this.

As for hate speech, I must note that neither for me nor for my party is hate speech or insults ever a way out. There is still much that can be found to fight against ‘Georgian Dream.’ Despite this, people should not be thrown into prison because of expressing an opinion or written words. ‘Georgian Dream’ has not understood that it is unimaginable to fight hate speech with repression. Repression will only deepen hate speech further. If you want to defeat hate speech, you yourself should not be the author of this hate speech; you should come out and teach people what a real political agenda should be like, how they should speak to each other,” Giorgi Chanturia noted.
