If instead of the Georgian Dream, these activist political formations, such as the National Movement and today's activist groups, had been in power, there would have been a war and today we would have already been a war-torn, ruined country, - the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers' Cemetery.
According to him, if the Georgian Dream had been at the helm of the government at that time, the war would not have happened.
"Manipulation of the dates is a distinctive niche of the National Movement. It is the same line as January 7 or December 25, May 8 or May 9, August 7 or August 8. These are issues specifically thrown in from the outside so that society cannot agree even on the main issues, to obscure the main issue. The question here is not when the war started, but the question is why the war started.
There would have been no war if Saakashvili’s puppet regime had not been in power in Georgia. If a patriotic force like the Georgian Dream had been in power then, there would have been no war, no destruction, no victims. If there had been no war in 2008, most likely there would have been no war in Ukraine either.
This is the main question they want to escape from, that at that time Georgia became a pawn to be sacrificed on the chessboard of geopolitical confrontation, which had to fulfill its function. Such a function was imposed on us at the hands of the puppet regime then. We were supposed to be a pawn to be sacrificed in a big geopolitical game, and vice versa, in 2022 the exact same situation was there. In 2022, someone wanted us to become a pawn again, to enter the military confrontation and war again, when the second largest conflict and war on the European continent after the Second World War began. In 2022, if these activist political formations, in the form of the National Movement and today's activist groups, had been in power instead of the Georgian Dream, there would definitely have been a war and today we would have already been a war-torn, ruined country. Therefore, the main issue is not when the war started, but why the war started, why Saakashvili and his puppet regime brought Georgia into the war," Shalva Papuashvili said.
