Gedevan Popkhadze - When "Mr. Bidzina" arrests you and you don't protest, this is a different kind of obedience - Gharibashvili went to prison in silence, but he may be secretly continuing to prepare a conspiracy

It was natural that at some stage questions would be raised. The former Prime Minister goes to prison without making any statements, without telling anyone anything, and then some treasures and money are found at home, whereas it is hardly conceivable that even a very rich person would have such a large amount of money at home, - Gedevan Popkhadze, a member of the Coalition for Change, said while talking about former Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili on Palitranews.

According to Popkhadze, the search conducted at Gharibashvili's house was very theatrical.

“I was surprised that Irakli Gharibashvili accepted all this [arrest] obediently from the beginning. It is one thing that you mention “Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili” after every third sentence, and another thing is that when this “Mr. Bidzina” arrests you and you don’t protest, that is a different kind of obedience.

It was natural that at some point there would be questions. The former prime minister goes to prison without making any statement, without telling anyone anything, and he brings some valuables and money to his house, whereas it is hardly conceivable that even a very rich person would have such a large amount of money at home. All this was very theatrical. He prepared and brought it there, this was also part of the deal because I exclude that a person would have such a large amount of money at home. There may be such people, but in this particular case it was very theatrical. He [Gharibashvili] was expecting a search. There was an expectation that he would be arrested in such a way. In such a situation, a person tries not to create too much compromising evidence, and here they have prepared all this. It would also be absolutely logical that Gharibashvili should have protested all this. In my opinion, a person who goes to prison so obediently is an object of attack. If Gharibashvili were to start justifying himself after being released from prison, this self-justification would not be a profitable position for him. Who would like a politician who did not protest anything while in prison?” Popkhadze noted.

When asked if Gharibashvili went to prison obediently, why was there a fear that he would return to politics, Popkhadze replied that he might be preparing some conspiracy against the government.

“Maybe this person went to prison in silence and obedience, but secretly continued to prepare some conspiracy, this is not excluded. I often heard before October 4 that Gharibashvili was an accomplice in those processes, many said this, but I did not see how this complicity was expressed. Some people said this and it was just a version. Maybe this was also a version put forward by the special services because they want someone to blame someone. I still believe that this excessive pressure on Gharibashvili is more of a pathology than logic,” Popkhadze said.

According to the opposition politician, the former prime ministers and other high-ranking officials of the Georgian Dream, who have left the ruling team, cannot accuse Bidzina Ivanishvili of any crime, because they are also accomplices in these crimes.

“They are accomplices in these crimes and that is why they cannot do it, and not because Ivanishvili is “clean”. If they did so, then they would have to open a grenade in their own hands. Ivanishvili in this case is a private individual, and Irakli Kobakhidze has already made it clear that whatever he does, he does on Ivanishvili’s orders.

In reality, when we say that these people [former high-ranking officials of the Georgian Dream] cannot actually say anything about Ivanishvili, they have exactly this problem - when a specific crime occurred with Ivanishvili’s participation, all the prime ministers were accomplices in this crime. If he did not admit his own crime, he cannot admit Ivanishvili’s crime. Therefore, now, if Irakli Gharibashvili is to fully delve into some topics, he must admit that Bidzina Ivanishvili made him do bad things,” Gedevan Popkhadze said.
