PM: The fight against corruption is yielding results – one of the reasons we managed to improve economic growth compared to last year is that we have eliminated corruption at the highest levels of government

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the fight against corruption is producing results, adding that the elimination of corruption at the highest levels of government is one of the reasons the country has improved its economic growth rate compared to last year.

Kobakhidze made the statement at a government meeting, where he presented the latest economic growth figures. According to the prime minister, Georgia’s economy grew by 8% in July, while economic growth for the current year reached 7.9%.

Kobakhidze also said that the country continues to maintain a high rate of economic growth.

“Clearly, the fight against corruption is producing results. One of the reasons we have managed to improve the economic growth rate compared to last year is that we have managed to eliminate corruption at the highest levels of government. We are continuing the fight against corruption at all levels,” Irakli Kobakhidze said at the government meeting.
