\Yesterday's statement by the official representative of the European Union once again confirms that Brussels' policy towards Georgia is deadlocked. Brussels resembles a soldier who has not learned that the war is over and is still planning military operations, - writes the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.

As Shalva Papuashvili notes, it is time for Brussels to come out of the world of illusions. If EU officials want to normalize relations with Georgia, they must stop their aggressive rhetoric towards Georgia.

“It is worrying to see another statement containing disinformation by the EU representative to the UN, repeating the usual rhetoric, which repeats the already worn-out lie about “arbitrary detentions” and “repressions”.

It is thought-provoking that the statements of EU officials, for the second time, completely contradict not only the facts, but also the values ​​and principles recognized by the EU itself, which requires a response.

It has long been clear to everyone that the violent protests against the Georgian government were partly financed with EU money, including the campaign that justified and incited the use of “Molotov cocktails”. Moreover, it was after Brussels’ virtual green light that the unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the government was launched on October 4 last year.

However, the Georgian people and the Georgian government duly defended the country, its freedom, sovereignty and interests. Today it is clear to everyone that the revolutionary process financed from abroad in 2024 was defeated. The false reality, which was supposed to overthrow the government in Georgia, has been dispelled, but the financiers of this lie have found themselves in captivity of their own false narrative, and they have not been able to part with it to this day.

The false narrative of “election fraud” and “crackdown on peaceful rallies” has been refuted by time and reality. The violent crimes committed have been investigated, the verdicts have been handed down, everything has been documented, recorded and, moreover, admitted by the perpetrators themselves.

Facts have once again overcome perceptions. A lie cannot become the truth just because Brussels repeats it insistently, and a perpetrator cannot become a victim just because some EU official wants it that way.

It is time for Brussels to abandon the world of illusions. If EU officials want to normalize relations with Georgia, they must stop their aggressive rhetoric towards Georgia, refuse to serve the information service of a defeated revolutionary scenario, and return to the elementary principles of diplomacy: respect for facts, Georgia’s sovereignty, and the democratic choice of the Georgian people,” Shalva Papuashvili wrote on Facebook.

The Deputy Permanent Representative of the European Union to the UN, Michele Cervone d’Urso, stated at the UN Human Rights Council session that the European Union is deeply concerned by the politically motivated use of the judiciary and the adoption of repressive measures against civil society organizations in Georgia.

According to him, the European Union reiterates Georgia’s commitment to protecting fundamental freedoms and calls for the repeal or substantial revision of recently adopted legislation that undermines international human rights standards.
