Irakli Kobakhidze: We are working not only to maintain current results but also to further develop the energy system, this is a top priority - we have an ambitious plan: generation capacity is set to increase 2.5-fold by 2036, and this is entirely realistic

"The results we have achieved in the energy sector are a credit to each of you, and I would like to express my special gratitude for this. Today, we are working not only to sustain these achievements but also to further develop our energy system and enhance energy security—a key priority for the government," Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated while addressing an event dedicated to Energy Worker's Day.

The Prime Minister congratulated energy workers on their professional holiday and noted that the foundation has been laid for a new vision that will guide the development of the country's energy system over the next decade.

"Happy Professional Day! Today, we are marking Energy Worker's Day at a truly remarkable location—a hydroelectric power plant with a century-long history, having been established and put into operation back in 1927. It was one of the first major hydroelectric plants in Georgia's history, marking a turning point in the development of our country and its economy.

Today—and indeed, now more than ever—the energy sector plays a pivotal role in our country's development and economic growth; the advancement of the energy sector will remain a top priority for our government in the future as well.

The achievements we have realized in the energy sector are a credit to each of you—to every single energy professional. They are the result of your hard work, professionalism, and engineering accomplishments, and I wish to extend my special gratitude to each of you for this.

We are currently working not only to maintain these achievements but to further develop our energy system and strengthen our energy security; this stands as one of our government's key priorities.

Over the past months, indeed, for more than a year now, significant changes have taken place within the Ministry of Economy, specifically regarding the energy sector, and these changes have already yielded tangible results; however, the full impact will become even more evident in the coming years as new energy facilities are built and our energy system undergoes qualitative strengthening. As you know, optimization has been carried out across various areas, laying the groundwork for a new vision that will guide the development of our energy system over the next decade," the Prime Minister noted.

Furthermore, according to Kobakhidze, the government has a "very ambitious plan to increase Georgia's power generation capacity 2.5-fold by 2036—a goal that is entirely realistic to achieve."

As the head of government pointed out, Georgia today possesses highly qualified energy professionals focused on modern challenges; they are continuing to build upon the rich engineering and professional traditions that have been cultivated in the country over the decades.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the new leadership of the Ministry of Economy—to the Minister, Ms. Mariam Kvrivishvili, and her team, including Ms. Inga Pkhaladze, who oversees the energy sector—as well as to the heads of every state-owned enterprise operating within the energy field. These changes, which we have already achieved during this period and which will lay the foundation for a new stage of energy development in our country, are the result of your collective efforts.

Human capital plays a pivotal role in this process. The expertise of professionals is the primary guarantee of both our past and future success. We take pride in the fact that Georgia today possesses highly qualified energy professionals focused on modern challenges—experts who are continuing to build upon the great engineering and professional traditions established in Georgia over the decades. We will do our utmost to ensure that our resources and potential are utilized in the most prudent and rational manner. We will spare no effort to attract new investments to the energy sector, strengthen infrastructure, and we will foster the development of modern technologies in this sector. We will also do our utmost to fully appreciate our distinguished professionals—every single individual who serves the energy system and contributes to its development in Georgia. I thank every energy sector professional for your work, your honorable service, your professionalism, and your dedication. Our country’s achievements in the energy sector rest upon the efforts of each of you. I congratulate you on your professional day and wish you success," stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
