Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze participated in the “Multilateral Partnership Summit,” held as part of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

The information was released by the Administration of the Government of Georgia.

According to the administration, at the summit, which was opened by European Council President António Costa, the head of the Georgian government emphasized the importance of international peace, security, and conflict prevention.

In his address, Irakli Kobakhidze spoke about the challenges facing international stability and stressed the need for multilateral partnerships to help prevent and peacefully resolve conflicts. The Prime Minister also addressed the situation in Georgia and the wider region.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia remains committed to upholding the principles necessary to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.

“ The ongoing occupation of 20 percent of Georgia’s territory affects the lives and rights of the people living there. We remain committed to the peaceful resolution of the conflict, including through de-occupation, reconciliation, and rebuilding trust among people affected by the conflict. International support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity remains an important part of this process.

Effective multilateralism also requires closer regional cooperation. Countries in the same region face common challenges in the areas of security and the economy, while closer cooperation enables a more effective response to these challenges.

The South Caucasus is going through a period of significant change, and increasing attention is being paid to its economic and strategic potential. Today, broader opportunities exist for practical regional cooperation. We welcome the progress achieved among our neighbors in the peace process and believe that strengthened regional cooperation can create new opportunities in areas such as trade, connectivity, and economic development,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.

According to the administration, a declaration was adopted at the summit, emphasizing the particular importance of joint efforts, respect for the principles of international law, and multilateral partnerships amid growing pressure on the world order.
