Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, the Government Administration said.

According to the administration, the meeting highlighted the long-standing and fruitful cooperation between Georgia and the United Nations.

“The discussions focused on challenges to international peace and security and the particular importance of multilateral partnerships in ensuring long-term stability and prosperity.

As noted during the meeting, the fact that peace, security, and sustainable development are the central themes of the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly underscores the particular relevance of these issues.

The meeting also addressed the difficult humanitarian situation and security challenges in Georgia’s occupied territories. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze thanked the UN Secretary-General for his support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and highlighted the importance of the resolution adopted by the General Assembly on the status of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, Georgia.

Irakli Kobakhidze also made a commemorative entry in the UN Guest Book of Honour,” the administration said.

Kobakhidze also commented on the meeting with the UN Secretary-General on X, saying that they discussed cooperation between Georgia and the United Nations.

According to the Prime Minister, the two sides discussed opportunities to further strengthen the partnership.

“I am pleased to have met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. At the meeting, we discussed cooperation between Georgia and the United Nations, the UN’s role in the conflict resolution process in Georgia, and opportunities to further strengthen our partnership,” the Prime Minister wrote.
