Zviad Shalamberidze: The protest is continuing out of inertia, which the Parliament Speaker correctly described as a “sect” — a decision should be made, as there is no point in continuing such a protest
“This is a protest continuing out of inertia, which the Parliament Speaker correctly assessed and referred to as a kind of sect,” Georgian Dream MP Zviad Shalamberidze said, commenting on a statement by Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, the protesters should reassess their actions and make an appropriate decision, as there is no longer any point in continuing such a protest.
“It can confidently be said that this protest has long since lost its substance and purpose. I am simply convinced that the overwhelming majority of the people who are still trying to continue the protest today genuinely do not know what it was initially about or what it is about now.
“This is a protest continuing out of inertia, which the Parliament Speaker correctly assessed and referred to as a kind of sect. Of course, it is not welcome that a protest in which passionate people participated and openly expressed their wishes has turned into what we now have as a sect.
“I believe these people should assess this properly and reconsider their actions in order to make an appropriate decision, because there is truly no point in continuing such a protest,” Shalamberidze said.
For reference, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili recently published a lengthy statement on social media, writing that “according to the opposition’s count, today is the 666th day of the ‘protest.’”
According to Papuashvili, the group of political protest activists has transformed into a pseudo-religious movement, resulting in an “aggressive sect” with rituals and symbols.
He also stated that, in the dogma of this pseudo-religious sect, the European Union is the “Promised Land,” Article 78 is the creed, resolutions are commandments, and a foreign politician is the supreme priest.
Papuashvili further wrote that when a political movement can no longer justify its existence through a specific result, it often chooses a path where continuation itself is declared a success, while form becomes detached from substance and turns into an end in itself.
