“A meeting, even a brief conversation or a short exchange of views, at such a representative international forum is quite important. Delegations and heads of delegations do not meet when there is an obvious confrontation between them,” First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski told journalists, responding to a question about Irakli Kobakhidze’s meetings with Donald Trump and Marco Rubio.

According to him, issues discussed even during a brief conversation may not be addressed in depth, but they can create a certain positive atmosphere.

“A meeting, even a brief conversation or a short exchange of views, at such a representative international forum is quite important. Delegations and heads of delegations do not meet when there is an obvious confrontation between them. And if such a conversation took place, moreover, more than once, and if our so-called opponents say that there is no basis for it, that does not mean that such a thing did not happen.

“We have also seen footage from other forums on numerous occasions. It is a normal occurrence at this forum as well for representatives and heads of delegations to speak with one another. Naturally, there is no reason or basis for the prime minister of our country to make anything up about this. He is a desirable interlocutor for many people, including high-ranking and senior officials participating in various forums.

“The issues discussed even during a brief conversation may not be addressed in depth, but they create a certain atmosphere, and this atmosphere is positive. Any positive atmosphere creates the precondition for hysteria among our opponents,” Volski said.

For reference, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said yesterday that during his visit to the United Nations, he had conversations with U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“The visit was not to the United States but to the United Nations. However, during this visit I had the opportunity to speak with both the U.S. president and the U.S. secretary of state, where I briefly noted that we want to restore the strategic partnership. This essentially depends on the United States itself. A step has been taken from our side, and we are waiting for reciprocal steps. That was my message during the brief conversations, both with the U.S. president and the secretary of state.

“I had brief conversations with both the American president and the secretary of state during the reception, and I emphasized the importance of restoring the strategic partnership for us. We expressed our desire to restore the strategic partnership, and the attitude was very positive. These brief conversations went positively,” the prime minister said.
