Grigol Gegelia: Kavelashvili is sitting and waiting for Trump to call - Kobakhidze will now join him, but this will never happen as long as the regime maintains this political course

“Kavelashvili is sitting and waiting for Trump to call. Now Kobakhidze will join him, sitting and waiting for Trump to contact him. Trump probably does not even know the surname of this person who was brought next to him for a photo,” Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of Lelo – Strong Georgia, said while commenting on a joint photograph of US President Donald Trump and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

According to Gegelia, as long as the Georgian government maintains its current political course and is aligned with Russia, China, Iran and other authoritarian states, there will be no reset in relations with the United States.

“A three-second handshake for a photo does not involve any conversation. We remember Kavelashvili with Trump in the same format last year, and this was not followed by any reset or dialogue between the United States and Georgia. Accordingly, any attempt and effort by the Georgian Dream to portray this as some kind of reset is simply comical, very funny.

“I want to remind everyone of Kavelashvili’s statement that Trump had promised to call him. Kavelashvili is sitting and waiting for Trump to call. Now Kobakhidze will join him, sitting and waiting for Trump to contact him. But I want to tell you that this will never happen as long as this regime maintains this political course, this anti-American, anti-European and anti-Georgian direction, and as long as this regime is aligned with Russia, Iran, China and other similar authoritarian regimes.

“Accordingly, a three-second photo, during which Trump probably does not even know the surname of the person who was brought next to him for the photograph — there are hundreds of such people there — means nothing,” Gegelia said.
