Avtandil Davitadze: Levan Ioseliani is defending not the rights of the people and the tortured person, but the rights of Georgian Dream - we no longer have a Public Defender in Georgia!

“Levan Ioseliani is defending not the rights of the people and the tortured person, but the rights of Georgian Dream,” said Avtandil Davitadze, the father of convicted prisoner Giorgi Davitadze, responding to Public Defender Levan Ioseliani’s position that “based on what he saw in the footage, it does not appear that Giorgi Davitadze was raped with a finger.”

According to Davitadze, Levan Ioseliani cannot be called a Public Defender and is not fulfilling his duties.

“So, we no longer have a Public Defender in Georgia! He is a defender of this government, and I think he is so frightened that, after seeing what was done to Giorgi, he is afraid the same thing could happen to him, which is why he can no longer say anything. This is Levan Ioseliani, a man who is defending not the rights of the people and the rights of the tortured person, but the rights of Georgian Dream,” Davitadze said.

Family members and supporters of prisoner Giorgi Davitadze are currently holding a protest outside the Special Penitentiary Service. Various banners have been displayed at the site, and participants are also symbolically wearing medical gloves.

For reference, Giorgi Davitadze, a convicted prisoner at Rustavi No. 6 Penitentiary Facility, made a statement at the Tbilisi Court of Appeals accusing prison guards of rape. According to him, the incident took place in the de-escalation room and involved several individuals; he claimed that “everything can be seen on the cameras.”

The Special Penitentiary Service also responded to the matter, calling the allegation disinformation. According to the Penitentiary Service, “there was no violence of any kind against Davitadze, let alone sexual violence.”
