Zurab Abashidze has been appointed Georgia’s non-resident ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Albania

Zurab Abashidze has been appointed Georgia’s first non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Albania. The information was released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Zurab Abashidze has a long diplomatic career. Over the years, he has held various positions both at the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at diplomatic missions abroad. Among other positions, he headed Georgia’s diplomatic missions to the European Union and NATO and served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Benelux countries. He also served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

From 2012 to 2024, Zurab Abashidze served as the Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Georgia for Relations with the Russian Federation. From 2024 to 2025, he served as an adviser to the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Zurab Abashidze is an associate professor at Tbilisi State University and the author of several books and publications.

He holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary,” the ministry said in its statement.
