The party “Gakharia for Georgia” is appealing to the Constitutional Court to examine the assessment of its constitutionality as a separate case

The party “Gakharia for Georgia” has submitted a motion to the Constitutional Court requesting that the assessment of the constitutionality of the party “Gakharia for Georgia” be separated into a distinct case and examined separately.

A briefing on this matter was held at the party “Gakharia for Georgia.”

“Our political association ‘Gakharia for Georgia’ has submitted a motion to the Constitutional Court in connection with the constitutional lawsuit, requesting that the assessment of the constitutionality of our political party be separated into a separate case and examined separately.

We consider that the individual examination of the issue of verifying the constitutionality of different political parties is the minimum legal obligation and standard that must at least formally be fulfilled, and that ‘Georgian Dream’ must answer its own voters on what specific legal grounds and with what evidence it is banning the only opposition parliamentary party in the country that has participated in every constitutional process, every nationwide election, and every commission.

This fundamentally destroys ‘Georgian Dream’s’ false narrative that it is supposedly banning the so-called ‘boycotters,’ which in itself is also an unconstitutional approach on the part of ‘Georgian Dream.’ The addition of the only parliamentary opposition party to the lawsuit confirms that ‘Georgian Dream’s’ goal is to declare dissenting opinion in the country unconstitutional and to ban it once and for all, in order to subsequently artificially create a managed opposition and, with its arranged political configuration, create the illusion of elections in the country.

The demand in the constitutional lawsuit to ban our political party is absurd and devoid of any legal grounds, and essentially represents a continuation of the public threat made by Bidzina Ivanishvili against Giorgi Gakharia in October 2024. The implementation of this threat against Giorgi Gakharia first began with physical attacks, and then continued with his political persecution on the basis of fabricated charges related to Chorchana and 20 June. As you can see, this proved insufficient for the political neutralization of Giorgi Gakharia, and the realization of this threat continues with the ban on our political party.

We have participated on every constitutional field of struggle, in the most unequal battles — with the aim of confronting ‘Georgian Dream’s’ propaganda and lies and not leaving our citizens alone face to face with ‘Georgian Dream.’ We intend to do the same now:

Of course, we will take part in the proceedings that are to be held in the Constitutional Court, so that this shameful process remains documented in the history of Georgia with the names of all those who are clumsily trying to destroy dissenting opinion in the country and establish a one-party dictatorship. The responsibility of each of them will be personalized, and no one will be able to escape from it — neither any organizer, nor any leader, nor any accomplice,” the party’s statement says, which was presented to the public at the briefing by the party’s Executive Secretary Berdia Sichinava.

“Georgian Dream,” through a constitutional lawsuit, is demanding that the activities of five opposition parties — “Unity – National Movement,” “Coalition for Change,” “Strong Georgia – Lelo,” “Federalists,” and “Gakharia for Georgia” — be declared unconstitutional and banned. The consideration of the lawsuit in the Constitutional Court will take place on 21, 22, and 23 October.
