EU enlargement is one of the main priorities in Georgia, – this was stated by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze while participating in the EU enlargement summit organized by Euronews in Brussels.
The head of government noted that it is written in the Constitution of Georgia that the country should become a full member of the European Union and that Georgian society is loyal to this goal.
“EU enlargement is one of the main priorities in Georgia. This is written in the Constitution of Georgia and the Government of Georgia, the ‘Georgian Dream’ government, added this point to the Constitution of Georgia, this norm about Georgia’s ambition to become a full member of the European Union. Georgian society is loyal to this goal and taking this into account we won the 2024 parliamentary elections. The main slogan in these parliamentary elections was – to Europe with dignity,” the Prime Minister stated.
At the same time, Kobakhidze stated that Georgian society has high trust toward “Georgian Dream”; 51% of the Georgian people went to the polling stations.
“Trust toward the European Union is very high, but trust toward the European Commission is low. Georgian society has high trust toward ‘Georgian Dream.’ 51% of the Georgian people went to the polling stations and gave us their vote. These circumstances testify that Georgian society is loyal to European integration. Trust toward the European Commission is low and they trust ‘Georgian Dream.’ In the last elections 54% of the voters gave us their vote,” the Prime Minister stated.
