Irakli Kobakhidze: We have a very good example: Ukraine and Moldova, they banned political parties and are way ahead compared to us — we intend to catch up with them

"We have a very good example: Ukraine and Moldova. They banned political parties and are way ahead compared to us. Therefore, we intend to catch up with them," stated the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, at the EU Expansion Summit organized by Euronews in Brussels.

At the EU Expansion Summit organized by Euronews, journalist Maria Tadeo asked Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze a question regarding the issue of banning parties.

"We have a very good example: Ukraine and Moldova. They banned political parties and are way ahead compared to us. Therefore, we intend to catch up with them. The European approach is sometimes absurd, because we have the example of Ukraine. They banned 18 political parties," Irakli Kobakhidze stated.

When asked whether he considers this issue will create a problem if he wishes to continue negotiations, Irakli Kobakhidze replied that he "offers European bureaucrats to make legal comments."

"The case is in the Constitutional Court. We appealed to the Constitutional Court on the constitutionality of certain political parties, about five opposition parties. This is a legal case. We offer European bureaucrats to make legal comments. However, nobody makes legal comments; they only make political comments. That is how they interfere in Georgia's independent judicial system, which contradicts European standards," noted Irakli Kobakhidze.
