Irakli Kobakhidze: I have information about two European ambassadors who, at different times, went to the Constitutional Court and demanded an account regarding a specific case

“I have information about two European ambassadors who, at different times, went to the Constitutional Court and demanded an account regarding a specific ongoing case,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists after the international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Georgia.

According to him, such actions are prohibited in every democratic country, because this is a gross violation of legal principles, the independence of the judiciary, the Vienna Convention, and legal principles.

“Specifically, I have information about two European ambassadors who, at different times, went to the Constitutional Court and demanded an account regarding a specific ongoing case. This is prohibited in every country; it is a gross violation of legal principles, the independence of the judiciary, the Vienna Convention, and legal principles. You have also heard public statements regarding an ongoing case, which is likewise a gross violation of legal principles. I call on everyone to respect the rule of law in Georgia.

Recently, information was also demanded regarding the case of the ban on parties. Previously, there were similar processes regarding other cases as well, which is incorrect. The rule of law must be protected in any democratic country, and the rule of law must also be respected here,” Kobakhidze stated.
