Mariam Kvrivishvili: The Middle Corridor is a key area of cooperation between Georgia and China; in this context, the Anaklia deep-sea port holds particular significance.

"The Middle Corridor is a key area of cooperation between Georgia and China, serving as a reliable transit route connecting China and Europe," Mariam Kvrivishvili, Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, stated during a meeting with representatives of the Georgian and Chinese business communities.

Mariam Kvrivishvili attended the meeting alongside the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the Vice President of the People's Republic of China, Han Zheng.

Speaking at the event—organized by the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry—the Minister of Economy also highlighted the pivotal role of the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port within the context of the Middle Corridor.

"In this context, the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port holds particular significance; it will serve as a gateway to the Middle Corridor on the Black Sea and play a vital strategic role in trade between China, Central Asia, and Europe," noted Mariam Kvrivishvili.

Furthermore, the Vice Prime Minister highlighted significant progress regarding air connectivity between Georgia and China.

"In July, a direct Shanghai-Tbilisi flight was added to the existing Urumqi-Tbilisi route. I am pleased to note that, following an agreement reached with China Eastern Airlines during my recent visit, the frequency of these flights will increase from three to five times per week starting in 2027. This will further facilitate the development of people-to-people ties, tourism, business connections, and economic cooperation," stated Mariam Kvrivishvili.

According to the Minister of Economy, the parties are also actively exploring the possibility of launching direct flights from Beijing, Guangzhou, and Chengdu.

Kvrivishvili also discussed the prospects for economic cooperation with China. According to her, China is one of Georgia’s largest trading partners, and there is significant potential to further deepen trade and economic cooperation and expand trade—an objective both sides are actively working to realize.

"China is one of Georgia’s largest trading partners; in the period from January to September 2026, trade turnover reached 2.3 billion US dollars—an increase of 41%—placing China second among Georgia’s trading partners," stated Mariam Kvrivishvili, Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.

Speaking at an event organized by the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mariam Kvrivishvili noted that there is even greater potential for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

"Despite this positive trend, we believe there is significant potential to further deepen trade and economic cooperation and expand trade—an objective both sides are actively working to realize," stated Mariam Kvrivishvili.

In her remarks, Mariam Kvrivishvili also highlighted the issue of investments from China into Georgia.

"Since 2002, the total volume of investments from China into Georgia has exceeded one billion US dollars. In the first two quarters of 2026, China became Georgia's largest investor, with investments totaling 236 million US dollars," the Minister of Economy stated.
