The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia denies the facts of artificial restrictions of the free choice of Georgian citizens living abroad, - reads the statement released by the Ministry today.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the citizens of Georgia, individual political and civic groups to refrain from disseminating unverified and unconfirmed information in order to prevent creation of unhealthy election climate.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs carefully studies all such information. As a result, we declare with full responsibility that it is obvious that certain forces are purposefully trying to discredit Georgian consulates and election process.
For example, Georgia's diplomatic mission in Sweden has already responded to this kind of provocative action. On November 8, Rustavi 2 T aired a video of a Georgian citizen living in Sweden, recorded at wrong address, claiming that the embassy was locked during working hours and she could not pass registration. It turned out that the video was intentionally recorded at the other floor of the embassy and that the citizen had already been registered. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided the relevant statement of the Embassy to all media outlets, including Rustavi 2, although the TV Company did not disseminate information about it”, reads the statement, which provides other similar examples as well.
