Some forces deliberately misinformed the population to create tension in the gorge, - Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili told reporters when commenting on the developments in the Pankisi Gorge.

According to him, meetings with the population of the Pankisi Gorge had been actively held regarding the construction of the hydro power plant.

"Meetings had been held with the population for more than a year, including with the participation of my deputy. Of course, various high-level professionals and experts of the ministry were involved in the process. The Ministry has a number of demands relating to the hydro power plant, which are related exactly to the concerns of the population. Some forces deliberately misinformed the population and tried to create tension in the gorge and that's what we saw yesterday. Fortunately, the older people of the gorge showed great responsibility and common sense in the process,"- said Davitashvili.

According to him, "meeting with the population will continue."

"The company will continue to work on the hydro power plant, which does not cause concern of the population. As for the hydro power plant in that particular village, we will continue to talk to the locals”, the Minister said.
