Rally against Russian MP underway in Tbilisi

A protest rally, objecting to the arrival of Russian MP Sergey Gavrilov in Georgia, is underway outside the palace for state ceremonies in Tbilisi. MP Sergey Gavrilov has arrived in Georgia to attend the 26 th session of the Inter-Parliamentary General Assembly.

The demonstrators say that Gavrilov is the member of the Russian State Duma and he was fighting against Georgians in the war of Abkhazia. In addition, they claim that the draft law, initiated by Sergey Gavrilov in 2011, provided a great assistance to the regimes of Abkhazia and so-called South Ossetia. The demonstrators say that MP Gavrilov is Putin’s “ideological ally” and he must not arrive in Georgia.
