Dialogue should be held between the Abkhaz and Georgian sides, but there are some topics in which the Russian side should also be involved and its interests should be taken into account, Aslan Bzhania, the leader of the Abkhazian opposition and so-called “presidential candidate”, said in an interview with Abkhazian TV after he was asked to make explanations of his interview with Georgian InterPressNews agency, where he stressed the necessity of dialogue with Tbilisi.
Aslan Bzhania also recalled a statement by Vladislav Ardzinba, the first de facto president of Abkhazia in 1999, that he had never considered Georgians enemies and was ready for dialogue with the Georgian side and noted that these words by Ardzinba “can be set as a task for all the Abkhaz politicians.” Aslan Bzhania advises those, who is against any dialogue with Tbilisi, to learn the Geography of the “own country” better and reminds them that Georgia is the "neighboring country and there is Georgia on the other side of the river Enguri.
"I am not going to discuss the issues of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Abkhazia with anyone. This issue is settled once and for all, ”Aslan Bzhania said.
Bzhania also touched upon the issue of "medical treatment of Abkhaz citizens in Georgia". He said he could not reprimand “Abkhaz citizens for traveling to Georgia” since they receive better quality medical care in “Georgia than in Abkhazia.”
"But it is unacceptable for the Abkhazian side that patients arriving in Georgia are demanded to get Georgian citizenship," Bzhania said.
According to him, such attitude of the Georgian side in this issue does not promote confidence building between the parties and even on these issues the parties should talk to each other and various formats of dialogue are necessary.
Bzhania believes that the issues listed by him should not be discussed within the Geneva format, but for example, at the border of the Enguri River, with those people, who are involved in bilateral relations.
The leader of the Abkhazian opposition Aslan Bzhania also touched upon the Russian side's participation in the Abkhaz-Georgian dialogue.
“For several centuries Russia has had its own interests in the Caucasus. The whole Transcaucasia was the part of the Russian Empire. There are topics in the Abkhaz-Georgian dialogue that should be discussed by Russia and its interests must be taken into account, "Aslan Bzhania added.
He said that, unlike Russia, Europeans are far from the Caucasus, Americans are even farther away, and he is focusing on these topics because he did not speak about them in details in the interview with a Georgian journalist, “but now I am specifying."
