Mamuka Khazaradze: If Vano Merabishvili goes back to prison in the near future, he will surely be a political prisoner

I believe that if Vano Merabishvili goes back to prison in the near future, he will surely be a political prisoner, like Gigi Ugulava, - Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of the Lelo for Georgia political union, told reporters.

According to him, the justice systems of the previous and present governments are the same.

“This is a justice system, which, both under the previous and the current governments, administers unfair justice and this is a problem of our entire country.

The main question I have with Vano Merabishvili is related to the funding for the National Movement by Bidzina Ivanishvili", - said Khazaradze.

He also said that the word used by Merabishvili - “overthrow” - was unacceptable to him.

“I welcome his release. As for his statement, the word “overthrow” is unacceptable to me. Revolutionary replacement of governments must end in this country. We all need to make choices for tomorrow, for progress, for our country's development,” Khazaradze said.

Former Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili left the so-called Matrosov prison after 7 years of imprisonment. Merabishvili was arrested in May 2013. He had been serving sentence for several cases, including a brutal dispersal of an opposition rally on May 26, 2011, the murder case of Sandro Girgvliani and the physical abuse of the opposition MP Valeri Gelashvili.

Merabishvili may face further charges for the raid in Imedi TV in 2007 and the dispersal of another rally on November 7, 2007.
