New cancer treatment program to apply to 40,000 citizens of Georgia

The new cancer treatment program will apply to a total of 40,000 citizens of Georgia. The Government of Georgia made a decision at today's meeting to expand the list of anti-cancer drugs within the framework of the universal health care program, in particular, to increase the annual limit on drugs by 8,000 GEL.

As Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated, this is an additional component of improvement in the extremely important program presented by the Ministry of Health, which will enable cancer patients to undergo a full course of treatment with state funding.

"Unfortunately, access to health services still remains problematic in the country, especially in terms of treatment of oncological diseases. Until now, the fourth stage was problematic, when our citizens had to pay for the treatment from their own pockets. As of today, this program is increasing by 8,000 GEL, which will enable virtually all of our citizens who are struggling with this severe disease to undergo a full course of treatment without any personal payments. Unfortunately, today 1972 citizens of Georgia are enrolled in this program and this is an extremely important support to these people," - said the Prime Minister.
