Amiran Gamkrelidze: If the regulations are implemented, the infection rate will probably be halved by the end of January

According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, if the regulations are implemented, the infection rate will probably be halved in the country by the end of January.

"The main purpose of these restrictions is to stop such rapid growth of the infection. We must see the result of this in the next ten days, two weeks. One thing is the introduction, but another thing is the execution. If we, together with the state, doctors, society, will be united like in the spring, we will achieve the result. Solidarity between the state, society and medical personnel is very important. The situation in the country is very difficult. We have to follow these regulations. There is a great hope that in case of implementation of the recommendations, we will not have rapid growth, we will stop this rapid growth, then it will start to decline and we will most likely have twice less cases somewhere by the end of January. This is the goal of all these restrictive measures today”, said Gamkrelidze.

According to him, Georgia has crossed the critical mortality threshold.

“I understand, it is difficult for the population to understand, there is a lot of criticism, but the right to life and health is the primary right. Our critical mortality threshold is 29. Unfortunately, we have crossed this threshold and restrictive measures are now needed," Amiran Gamkrelidze said.
