According to the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Archil Talakvadze, the leader of the National Movement, Nika Melia, imposed more restrictions on himself than it was imposed on him by an electronic brace.
As Talakvadze said on PalitraNews, "this is an inconsistent action, a double standard and a deception of the society."
"The parliament made the kind of decision that would be made by the parliament of any democratic country. There are numerous examples in the recent history, when the parliament and the judiciary made the same decisions in response to a violent attack on constitutional institutions. It was not just one incident. Nika Melia took part in a violent attack on the parliament, after which he was involved in a violent attack on the Central Election Commission, where he stated that he would not obey the requirements of law”, Talakvadze said.
According to him, Nika Melia’s actions that the society is now seeing are a shame.
“He locked himself in a room and restricted his own freedom. In my opinion, this is inconsistent action, a double standard and a deception of the society. It is a shame. He said that he would break all shackles, free himself and become the leader of opposition’s reactionary movement. And today we are seeing that even before the court has announced its decision, he locked himself in the room”, Talakvadze said.
