Parliament passes constitutional amendments in the first reading

Parliament passed the planned amendments to the constitutional law with 126 votes in the first reading. At the initiative and decision of the ruling majority, the bill was put to a vote without the clause that provides for the election of the Prosecutor General by a qualified majority - three-fifths of the full membership of Parliament.

With the draft revision of the Constitution adopted in the first reading, the change will be reflected in the transitional provisions of the Constitution, which means that the new norms will be temporary and will apply to the next two convocations of Parliament.

According to the draft, based on the next two parliamentary elections, the seats of the members of parliament will be distributed to the political parties that will receive 2% of the votes.

Parliamentary elections will be held under the proportional system, and the so-called unallocated seats will remain with the parties with the largest balance. Under the same amendments, the number of faction members in the current and next two convocations of parliament should not be less than four. The draft constitutional amendments are an initiative of 91 parliamentarians.
