Opera singer Paata Burchuladze released a statement in connection with his hunger strike, demanding the transfer of Mikheil Saakashvili to a civilian clinic.
As Burchuladze states, he will continue the hunger strike until Mikheil Saakashvili is transferred to multi-profile civilian hospital.
Burchuladze also addresses friends, international partners, and the members of European Parliament who were refused to visit Saakashvili in the prison hospital, noting that Georgian people are fully detached from such action and remain committed to European values.
"My Dear friends, tender-hearted society and devoted international Partners of Georgia!
Due to the extremely unjust and injurer processes in my home country I decided to return to Georgia as soon as possible and go on a hunger strike as an act of protest.
Oligarchic regime in Georgia no more conceals its ill repute face and daily takes us further away from democratic values.
As you are informed, the third President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, known as reformer-leader is the prisoner of the Georgian Government from October 1st. Its already 47th day of his hunger-strike. He is not allowed to attend trial hearing of his own case, not allowed to contact his family - mother and children even by phone, and finally - his life and health is not protected.
Several days ago, Mikheil Saakashvili was fraudulently and by force transferred to Gldani prison hospital, the place which does not match international standards which are so important for saving his life.
We - Georgian Artists have addressed Georgian Government several times and the answer was the terrible video released by the special penitentiary service, which confirmed that Mikheil Saakashvili was a victim of inhuman treatment.
I don’t want to represent Country where human rights are so rudely and demonstratively violated. Where the President who was elected by at least 97% of citizens is excessed to death.
My demand is unchanged - I’ll be on hunger strike until the Third President will not be transfered to the multi-profile civilian hospital. Until the psychological violence will not be stopped and his life will not be protected.
I would like to inform all our friends, international Partners, the members of Euro Parliament who were refused to visit Saakashvili in the prison hospital some days ago - that Georgian people are fully detached from such action and remain committed to European values", - stated Burchuladze.
