Salome Samadashvili: Gharibashvili said that my colleagues and I were lobbying in the European Parliament against Georgia’s candidate status, but the truth is the opposite

"They should apologize to me and all the members of the opposition who are doing our best to fix their failed case," Salome Samadashvili, MP from Lelo, told reporters.

According to Samadashvili, the truth is that they demanded that a resolution be passed in Brussels in support of granting candidate status to Georgia and the answer was that the Georgian Dream was against it.

"Why is the frightened Georgian Dream lying? They are lying, because they are well aware that our application in the European Union has bad chances. Gharibashvili said that my colleagues and I were lobbying in the European Parliament against Georgia’s candidate status, but the truth is the opposite. We asked in the European Parliament to pass a resolution in support of granting candidate status to our country, as they did in the case of Moldova and Ukraine. Their answer was that the Georgian Dream was actively trying to prevent the resolution from being passed, as they feared it would mention, for example, the July 5 violence, the arrest of the head of a free media outlet, and many other issues, including the withdrawal from the Michel document.

Today, Ms. Bochorishvili lied when she said that the European Parliament had adopted such a resolution. When I asked her to present the document, she gave me a list, which shows that the last resolution was adopted in 2020. After submitting the application for candidate status, the European Parliament has not adopted any resolution on Georgia," Samadashvili said.

Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili said in Parliament today that he was directly told in the European Parliament that Salome Samadashvili and others were deliberately harming Georgia.
