Amiran Gamkrelidze: Perhaps this is not the right time to be completely honest about why I resigned, my children and I have dedicated our lives to see Georgia as a member of the Euro-Atlantic space

My children and I have dedicated our lives to see Georgia as a member of the Euro-Atlantic space, the country to have a European orientation, the former head of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, said in an exclusive interview with InterPressNews, answering a question of whether the critical positions of his son in relation to a number of political issues was the reason for him to resign.

As Amiran Gamkrelidze explained, he cannot honestly talk about the reasons for leaving at this stage.

"It is clear that the press is always interested in scandalous information. However, perhaps this is not the right time to be completely honest about why I resigned...

To be honest, I was thinking about it because of my age, but after about two or three years, when I would have developed/completed two big national projects. To answer few questions, I will tell you that neither I nor my children have had any political ambitions. All our lives we have served the country, its development and progress, and I will tell you that we make a small contribution. That's how I grew up and that's how I raised my children. Our orientation, our credo has never been hidden. We have dedicated our lives to seeing Georgia as a member of the Euro-Atlantic space, the country to have a European orientation and to become a full-fledged member of the European Union. There should be nothing surprising in this, because 85% of the country's population thinks so. I will also add that I had a political position, which I left in 2004, and I do not plan anything in politics", said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

As for the information about confrontation with the Prime Minister, according to Gamkrelidze, he has not had a conflict with anyone.
