Grigol Vashadze: The fact that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service together have almost twice as much funding as the Ministry of Defense is a complete disaster - how long should the Ministry of Foreign Affairs be left without attention?

"This is a peacetime budget and we are at war! The fact that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service together have almost twice as much funding as the Ministry of Defense is a complete disaster - I don't know what we are hoping for!" - MP Grigol Vashadze said at the joint meeting of the committees of foreign relations and diaspora and Caucasus affairs, where the 2023 draft state budget is being discussed.

Vashadze also asked, "How long should the Ministry of Foreign Affairs be left without attention?"

"In Europe, completely different political forces are coming to power. None of the embassies, except one, have any connection with these new forces, because the majority of those who are there feel like they are in a sanatorium, at the expense of the Georgian taxpayer. This can't go on like this – we cannot hope that everything will be fine. Not everything will be fine! What is happening today is the beginning! We think we are in the middle or nearing the end, but this is just the beginning. The question about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was correctly asked - we can put aside the issue of buildings, but is it possible that these people do not have the resources that are needed? They should talk to the Government separately and to the opposition separately. Diplomacy has its own laws. Take care of this, otherwise it will be then late!" Grigol Vashadze said at the committee hearing.

Steven Blockmans: If Georgia misses the opportunity to get closer to the EU, it will take a long time to repair the damage caused by the autocratic regime
