Ilia Darchiashvili: This year Georgia's relations with European countries have been characterized by active dynamics

The deepening of bilateral relations with European countries will be especially important for the security of Georgia, as well as for the successful implementation of the process of integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures, Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said in the Parliament of Georgia in the Minister's Hour format.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke extensively about bilateral cooperation and future plans between Georgia and European countries.

According to him, this year Georgia's relations with European countries have been characterized by active dynamics - a number of high-level visits were exchanged, and political consultations were held with countries such as Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Finland, the Czech Republic and Ukraine, which, according to the Minister, is very important for the country in the light of the geopolitical situation created in the region.

According to him, in order to strengthen bilateral relations with European countries, multilateral forums were also actively used, within the framework of which the head of the Foreign Ministry held bilateral meetings with a number of European counterparts.

Speaking about Georgia-Germany relations, the country's first diplomat emphasized the willingness of the Federal Chancellor to help Georgia’s European integration within the framework of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Berlin, which, according to Darchiashvili, was the most important message of Germany's political support. The resolution of the Bundestag of April 28, which confirms the support of Georgia on the European path, was also mentioned.

According to Ilia Darchiashvili, in the period of 2022, the dynamics of active relations also continued with France. The importance of the meeting between Irakli Gharibashvili and Emmanuel Macron in Madrid was also emphasized, within the framework of the NATO summit.

Speaking of the formats of strategic cooperation with European countries, the Minister noted the importance of the next round of tripartite consultations held in Tbilisi within the framework of the Georgian-German-French triangle. Attention was also focused on the importance of activating Wardrop strategic dialogue with the United Kingdom. In addition, the Minister mentioned the importance of establishing a high-level dialogue between Georgia and Italy, the decision of which was taken during the meeting with his Italian counterpart.
