The chairwoman of United National Movement faction, Khatia Dekanoidze, denies the information that her candidacy for the position of party chairwoman is being considered.
As Dekanoidze told the journalists, she has neither considered this issue before nor will she consider it now.
"No, I am not considering this issue, I am not a person for whom others can make a decision. Now, the health condition of Mikheil Saakashvili is very important for the National Movement, and this health condition and his transfer are the first concern of me and many of my friends. Elections are a democratic process, no one was against the elections. I have not considered my candidacy and will not consider it, because I actually believe that I have a very important role in the party and in the Parliament," she said.
We remind you that part of the members of the National Movement are demanding internal party elections. In particular, one of the leaders of the party, Irakli Nadiradze, and representatives of regional organizations held a briefing yesterday, where they demanded that the party's political council and secretariat be re-staffed and also that a new chairman of the party be elected.
Nika Melia, the chairman of the National Movement, responded to the mentioned statement. As he noted, he was ready and is ready to participate in any type of elections. He also adds that there was agreement in the party on the issue of elections, and the subject of discussion was only deadlines and procedural issues, "when and how the elections would be held."
In addition to Khatia Dekanoidze, one of the leaders of UNM, Petre Tsiskarishvili, also denied that he is going to put up his candidacy for the party chairmanship.
