Shalva Papuashvili: With this open process, we are ready to discuss with the opposition the candidates for Public Defender, to talk about their positive and negative sides and to agree on this

With this open process, we are ready to discuss with the opposition the candidates for Public Defender, to talk about their positive and negative sides and to agree on this, said the Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, the attitude that the parliamentary majority should support the opposition's "favorite" public defender candidate is against democracy.
"It seems that the attitude is still not completely dispelled and there is an idea that the Public Defender should be elected in such a way that some part of the opposition should say who is their favorite and then the majority should be forced to agree with the opposition's favorite. This is not so. This is contrary to democracy.
Georgian Dream is the parliamentary majority, therefore, it represents the majority of the population of Georgia, and therefore, first of all, the opinion of the majority of the population of our country should be taken into account. This is democracy. That's why we took this process like this - it was an open process and everyone could participate. The society has seen the weak and strong points of all these candidates, and now it is a question of political agreement," Papuashvili said.
