Andrii Kasianov: We have applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia on to allow the Ombudsman of Ukraine to visit Saakashvili, but we have not received a reply so far

According to Ukraine's Charge d'Affaires Andrii Kasianov, they applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia on December 17 of last year to allow the Ombudsman of Ukraine to visit Mikheil Saakashvili, but they have not received a reply so far.

Andrii Kasianov spoke about the above on PalitraNews.

He appealed to the authorities of Georgia, due to the serious condition of Mikheil Saakashvili's health, to transfer him to a leading clinic in Europe or America for treatment.

"Protecting the legal rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens abroad has always been and remains a priority for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and foreign diplomatic missions. The Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia works to protect the legal rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens, including Mikheil Saakashvili. Ukraine is deeply concerned about the significant deterioration of the health condition of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili. Considering his critical condition and immediate threats to his life, we call on the Georgian side to consider the possibility of transferring him to Ukraine or another country for treatment. This was said in the President's New Year message. Also, we called on the Georgian authorities to give permission Dmytro Lubinets, the representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on human rights, to visit Saakashvili. We made this request on December 17, 2022, we sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, as well as to to Rati Bregadze, unfortunately, we have not received a reply to date.

I will tell you more, I personally had contact with the President, and during the New Year's reception, I appealed to the Prime Minister of Georgia to give permission to our Ombudsman to visit Saakashvili, considering that he is in an extremely serious condition and on the verge of death. Ukraine derives from the fact that the issue of life and health for Saakashvili is not political, but humanitarian, therefore, we call on the Georgian authorities to show mercy and transfer him to a leading medical institution in Europe or the USA for treatment, just to save his life”, said Kasianov.
