Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry: In the worst traditions of the People's Commissariat of USSR, the Georgian authorities are using psychological and physical violence against Mikheil Saakashvili and intentionally creating a direct threat to his life, we call for his handover to Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the authorities of Georgia to immediately hand over the third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, to Ukraine.

As stated in the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the gross violation of human rights against the citizens of Ukraine is contrary to Tbilisi's declared course of joining the European Union and indicates a deviation from democracy.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses a categorical protest regarding the inhuman treatment of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili, who is behind bars in Georgia. In the worst traditions of the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR, the Georgian authorities are using psychological and physical violence against Mikheil Saakashvili, denying him the urgently needed medical assistance, and intentionally creating a direct threat to his life. The gross violation of human rights against the citizens of Ukraine contradicts Tbilisi's declared course of joining the European Union and indicates a deviation from democracy in Georgia.

We call on the Georgian authorities to immediately stop insulting Mikheil Saakashvili and hand him over to Ukraine. Don't play with human life for political revenge. We also appeal to foreign governments and international organizations to publicly protect the citizen of Ukraine, the former president of Georgia, whose life was in danger due to political repressions by the Georgian authorities," reads the statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
