Any fact that is related to the President and represents an attack on this institution or an attempt to do so is political, this is how the adviser to the President of Georgia on education, culture and science, Konstantine Natsvlishvili, responded today to the entry of the employees of the General Inspection of the Ministry of Culture into the presidential palace in order to return 5 works belonging to the Art Palace.
As for the disseminated information that part of the artworks temporarily placed in the Orbeliani Palace is damaged and that the Presidential Administration violated the deadlines for placing the exhibits, Konstantine Natsvlishvili calls it another accusation and says that this is not something new for the Presidential Administration.
"The works of Svimon Dadiani were presented to Georgia as a gift by one of the closest family of the President at the request of the President. These are about 30 works that are stored in the Art Palace. Some of these works were exhibited in the Orbeliani Palace. Our goal is to create a basis for unity between the Georgian emigrant culture and today's Georgia. Therefore, we pay close attention to every such fact related to old emigration, as well as contemporary Georgian artists living abroad, and try to exhibit or temporarily exhibit these works in Georgia.
As for the damage to these works - these works traveled a long way to Georgia. At one time, they were placed in America, then in Paris, from where they came to Georgia. They were exhibited in two different spaces in Georgia. Out of dozens of works, only 5 were selected by the Art Palace to be exhibited with us. It cannot be determined where the damages (which we do not think are of particular importance) were done - whether it was done here or before the arrival. In general, we are used to such accusations, which we have been following and which were voiced by the Ministry today. Therefore, this is not something new for us. We remain loyal to the policy that Georgian museums must be filled with new works of art, especially from the Georgian emigration," said Konstantine Natsvlishvili.
According to him, any fact that is related to the President and represents an attack on the institution of the President or an attempt to do so is political.
"We have a memorandum with the Palace of Arts, and I think the deadlines were respected and there were no violations. We have a long memorandum. Our memorandum was before the end of the President's term. This palace is one of the most protected state buildings in Georgia, therefore, I do not see any danger in how long these works would be in the Orbeliani Palace. Any fact that is related to the President and represents an attack on the institution of the President or an attempt to do so is political," said Konstantine Natsvlishvili.
We remind you that the General Inspection of the Ministry of Culture, together with the employees of the Palace of Arts, entered the Presidential Palace today in order to return 5 works temporarily placed in the Presidential Administration. Rustavi 2 TV reported the information. According to them, several paintings have various types of damage, the issue concerns a 2-year contract, which was concluded from November 30, 2020 to November 30, 2022.
