Khatuna Samnidze: Georgian Dream, by initiating the project, which is directly a Russian path, has decided to refuse the small chance that the country has to get candidate status

Georgian Dream, by initiating the project, which is directly a Russian path, has decided to refuse the small chance that the country has to get candidate status, Republican Party MP Khatuna Samnidze said when commenting on the registration of the draft law on "foreign influence" in the Parliament.

Samnidze states that People's Power, which is registering the draft law, is a part of Georgian Dream and therefore, the initiation of this law is precisely the decision of Georgian Dream, by which they refuse candidate status.

"The draft law that is being initiated is the decision of Georgian Dream and the rejection of the country's European status. Georgian Dream, I emphasize Georgian Dream, and not anyone else, because this group is Georgian Dream, by initiating this draft law, which is a directly Russian path, decided to refuse the small chance that the country has to get the candidate status. Registration of this law is a direct rejection of the country's European status, it has nothing to do with American legislation, this is the Russian path, this is what Putin did in 2012, and we see what is happening in Russia. Moreover, our country has an obligation to strengthen the non-governmental sector, civil society, and instead of that, it is fighting against them," said Samnidze.

She also responded to the resolution of the European Parliament regarding Mikheil Saakashvili and said that the critical statements made by the European partners are related to the fact that they do not want this issue to become a barrier to obtaining the status.

"When Georgia has a government that welcomes direct flights with Russia, initiates a bill that is a Russian path, attacks Western partners, when the right to life of the third president in prison is violated, in such a situation, of course, we will receive a harsh statement and harsh criticism. Georgian Dream, when it hears this criticism about itself, it should not respond with an attack, it should respond by understanding this criticism and with the political steps that will solve the problems and challenges, due to which the country's image is tarnished,” Samnidze said.
