It is very unfortunate, but I think that this is aimed at gaining influence in the court and completely discrediting it, the former chairman of the Tbilisi Court of Appeals, Valeri Tsertsvadze, writes on the social network, responding to the designation of 4 judges, including him, by the US State Department.
According to him, the said decision was made on the basis of absolutely false and unsubstantiated information.
"I would like to state that I categorically disagree with the allegations. I would like to point out that I have not held a court or any other state position for 6 years, therefore referring to me as a life-long judge is clearly a deliberate distortion of the facts. This directly indicates that this decision was made on the basis of absolutely false and unsubstantiated information.
I would like to state unequivocally that there are no facts and evidence that would confirm the allegations. I believe that statements made without any justification and in violation of the presumption of innocence carry political weight.
It is very unfortunate, but I think that this is aimed at gaining influence in the court and completely discrediting it," wrote Valeri Tsertsvadze.
For information, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has released a statement on public designations of Mikheil Chinchaladze, Levan Murusidze, Irakli Shengelia and Valerian Tsertsvadze.
According to the statement, the U.S. Department of State is publicly designating Mikheil Chinchaladze, Levan Murusidze, Irakli Shengelia, and Valerian Tsertsvadze under Section 7031(c) visa restriction authorities, due to their involvement in significant corruption.
As Blinken explains in the statement, these individuals abused their positions as court Chairmen and members of Georgia’s High Council of Justice, undermining the rule of law and the public’s faith in Georgia’s judicial system.
