According to Ana Natsvlishvili, a member of Lelo, Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze fears that the speech of the President of Georgia in the European Parliament will harm not the country, but his party, as Georgian Dream does not follow the path of the European Union.
She stated the above on the PalitraNews, thereby evaluating the statement of Irakli Kobakhidze regarding the visit of the President to the European Parliament, according to which he is afraid that the visit of the President and her statements “will damage our aspiration to get the candidate status".
As Natsvlishvili noted, it is impossible for the President's speech in the European Parliament to damage Georgia's European perspective.
According to her, Georgian Dream does not want Georgia to receive candidate status and it is in this context that it does not want the President to pay a visit to the European Parliament.
“Kobakhidze's statement is very serious. It is a violation of the constitutional powers and obligations of the President. Kobakhidze seems to have two constitutions. One, which was written by the commission, and the other one, his own constitution. Article 78 of the Constitution mandates everyone, including the President, to take all steps to promote European integration. In this context, the speech of the President in the European Parliament is very important. As far as I remember, Mikheil Saakashvili visited the European Parliament once, but under this government there has not been such a thing. It is very important for the European Parliament and, accordingly, for the European Union to put Georgia on the agenda in this regard. It is impossible for this speech and in general an event of this scale to damage the European perspective of Georgia. Quite the opposite. He [Irakli Kobakhidze] thinks that it will damage his party. It will damage his party, because it is his party that does not follow the path of the European Union. These people do not want the country to get status. They have already received status from Putin, and it is not in their interest the country to receive the EU candidate status at all", said Natsvlishvili.
