Two parliamentary committees did not support the candidates presented by Salome Zurabishvili for the election to the board of the National Bank.

Dimitri Japaridze and Giorgi Bakradze, who were presented for the position of a member of the board of the National Bank, were heard at the joint session of the financial-budgetary and sectoral economy committees, the members of the committees got to know their views, but they refused to support them.

During the voting, only the opposition deputies - Beka Liluashvili and Roman Gotsiridze - supported the candidates.

As Paata Kvizhinadze, the Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee of the Parliament, said, if there is a desire for the election of the members of the board of the National Bank to be discussed in the Parliament, preliminary consultations should be held before the presentation.

"No one doubts the competence of the presented candidates. A candidate can be very talented and professional, but s/he can be liberal or conservative, s/he can be pro-Russian or pro-European - we can elect all?! I say this in general... Consultations are needed!

You say, where is it written about consultations in the Constitution... It is not written in the Constitution that whoever is represented by the President must be approved by the Parliament. Let's take the USA as an example - Trump approved three members of the Supreme Court... all ambassadors are approved there, hundreds of people are approved... the President nominates and the Parliament approves. Have you seen it fail anywhere? There is always an agreement. When Trump had the chance to remove a conservative-minded judge, he had this opportunity in the Parliament, because the majority were Republicans and he removed him, many things changed in the court and well-known decisions were made... so there is nothing surprising, it is a well-known practice that the President and the Parliament agree on the candidates who will be acceptable," said Paata Kvizhinadze at the joint meeting of the two committees.

The Parliament will take the final decision on the candidates for membership of the board of the National Bank at the nearest plenary session.
